Step 2: Getting Crawled & News Posts

Don’t have much time today, but created the first 3 (not including this 1) blog post, 1 under each main category as shown on homepage. It is my intention to update at least ONCE per day (that shouldn’t kill me, heh).

Also added Google Analytics (noticing traffic already *waves to competition*) :) And also verified my website with Google Webmaster Tools, including the submission of an XML Sitemap. Should also verify with Bing & Yahoo too as both show some other, quite interesting data, but at a later date eh!

Create a blog comment, or two and voila, first inbound links = helps website to be found by search engines.

So, questions… Google Analytics, do you use it or not? If not, why not? I’m expecting some people to say NO here, so go on, spill the beans. Sceptical about how G uses your data such as bounce rates, keywords used to enter site… not only from Google, but other search engines too? Yeah… I worry ’bout that too! ;)

Oh and as a sidenote. If you know someone who has started a website recently and they are a bit of a analytics/Google newb, but you know they will love to look at their Google Analytics on a daily basis, I always find it fun to do some of these search parameters;

site:newbswebsite.com -rubbish website

“site:” means Google will only bring back results from the domain you type in after this term.

The ‘-’ sign means, ’search this site, not including these words’… which is important, because the newb probably doesn’t realise the’-’ sign means ‘not including the keyword’ so they see it as someone has come to their website with that keyword! ;) Oh… and ofcourse, remember to click on it, duh!

Other things you can do…

… no wait, I shall come to this at a later date. I bet all who are in this contest right now are seeing it though. :]
